Glazed and Confused

Abstract Canvas Art Painting by Seb Farrignton

Glazed and Confused, I feel, needs a little explaining. On first encounter with this painting you could be forgiven for thinking it is just a giant mass of swirling burgundy ripples – perhaps suggesting that it has nothing to offer by looking at it. Perhaps a glance at some of the photos below will convince you otherwise. I make a point of commenting on how much detail I put into my paintings but with this one I have taken that to a whole new level.

The two photos above show about a one inch square of canvas. I think that the beauty of this painting can only be appreciated up close.  It’s impossible to get a full appreciation for the piece standing away from it. The other cool thing about this painting is the glossy ripple effect you can see as you walk round it. This is virtually impossible to show using a camera as I cannot simulate motion easily. What you see is a tremendous reflection of light into the pools and ripples of paint.

One of the really great things about looking at this and other paintings of mine is that you get the overwhelming  urge to touch it.

This particular piece measures 1220mm x 1220mm x 50mm. It was painted using industrial grade enamel paint, each of which was thinned to achieve a characteristically dense but even flowing consistency. The canvas was painted on the floor then wrapped around a seasoned timber frame, so the painting wraps around the edges.
